Color guide
It is important to understand that diamonds, in terms of color, come in two different varieties: fancy and white. Fancy-colored diamonds are yellow, green, pink, and more. While white diamonds are colorless, when grading these, the absence of color is measured.
A diamond's color is measured on a scale from D-Z. D represents a completely colorless diamond, while diamonds graded Z are light yellow or brown in color. However, it is essential to note that there is no inherent superiority or beauty associated with a specific grade. While D-grade diamonds are exceptionally rare, the human eye perceives diamonds above grade H as colorless when set in jewelry.

Regional Grading Variation
Across different regions, variations in diamond grading systems add layers of complexity to the discerning process. In Scandinavia, diamonds undergo grading using a unique scale, from River (colorless) to Yellow, reflecting local preferences and traditions. However, to ensure clarity and consistency for our clientele, VANBRUUN aligns with the internationally recognized D-Z grading scale, facilitating seamless communication and informed decision-making for our customers worldwide.
The VANBRUUN recommendation
Our inventory typically includes diamonds graded from D to K. When it comes to settings in white metals like white gold or platinum, we recommend selecting diamonds graded from D to H. However, for a warmer setting like yellow gold or rose gold, diamonds graded D to K are more suitable. It is important to note that diamonds reflect their surroundings. This means that a diamond of warmer color may not look as good in a white metal setting but will look absolutely marvelous in a setting of warm metal.
Laboratory Certification
In the diamond industry, precision and authenticity are of utmost importance. Therefore, choosing a reputable certifying laboratory is crucial. At VANBRUUN, we are particular about selecting diamonds that have been certified by renowned institutions known for their strict standards and attention to detail. By prioritizing certifications from esteemed laboratories, we aim to instill confidence in our customers, assuring them of the accuracy and reliability of our diamond grading.
A diamond is graded by four parameters called the 4C's. Together they determine the look and price of a diamond. Read on to learn more about the 4C's.
