Clarity
Almost all diamonds have some imperfections and this is not entirely bad. The imperfections created by nature is one element which enables you to distinguish it from a synthetic counterpart. The number of imperfection, position and the size of them decides the clarity grade. A majority of the experts agree that the clarity grade affects the visual appearance the least as long as it is eye clean.
The grading range from FL (flawless) to I3 (included 3). FL means that there are no outer or internal inclusions at all that can be spotted while magnifying x10 while the lowest grading I3 means that the diamond contains many inclusions that can be spotted with a naked eye. By default, VANBRUUN keeps stones ranging from FL down to SI2.
Below is a picture from GIA which is showcasing the different clarity grades.
FL & IF
Flawless and internally flawless have no imperfections at all, the IF diamonds have just some minor imperfections on the surface which is impossible to see with the naked eye. These clarity grades are extremely rare to find and they are the most expensive ones.
VVS1 & VVS2
Very, very small inclusions that are hard to spot even under a 10x magnification. Great clarity grade which is hard to find.
VS1 & VS2
Very small inclusions that can be noticed under 10x magnification but are undetectable without aid. You can feel safe to get a 100 % eye clean stone with this clarity grade for a smaller diamonds. Diamonds around 0.80 Carat and above with VS2 clarity may have visible inclusions with the naked eye. Please ask us and we will help you. This clarity grade has excellent value.
SI1 & SI2
Small inclusion that sometimes can be noticeable with a naked eye. Excellent value, look for a diamond with inclusions on the outer parts since they are harder to spot than if they are placed around the table facet of the diamond. The majority of all stones we sell are SI1, we always check that they are 100 % eye clean before we buy them. You can find a beautiful SI2 as well but you generally have to look a while to find one. Therefore it is safer to go for an SI1 or VS2 (for bigger stones).
I1, I2 & I3
Inclusions that most people can detect without any aid, that is the reason we do not keep these diamonds in our inventory, are you looking to buy one anyway, please contact us.
