Conflict diamonds or blood diamonds is mainly associated with African countries such as Angola, Sierra Leone, Botswana, Liberia, and Congo. They are all examples of countries where conflict diamonds has been part to finance groups and conflicts where people suffered very badly. The Kimberley Process was founded in May 2000 to prevent conflict diamonds to be released to the market and reach unaware consumers. The leading countries where diamonds are mined gathered to stop the trade of conflict diamonds i.e diamonds that finance a war and other conflicts in a brutal way. Just over six months later the countries and the diamond industry agreed on a way to control the diamond trading, all from the rough diamond to the final cuts. There are 54 members in the Kimberley Process today which indirectly means that 81 countries are represented. In total, this means that approximately 99,8% of all rough diamonds undergo the Kimberley Process.
At VANBRUUN we guarantee that our diamonds are conflict free and we only trade with suppliers that obtain their diamonds from legitimate sources that we know don't risk to get in wrong hands by conflict zones.
