The difference between natural and lab grown diamonds is that lab grown diamonds are manufactured in a laboratory by humans, while natural diamonds are created by nature. Apart from the manufacturing process, the only real difference is the price. Lab grown diamonds are generally much lower in price and resale value. Nothing visually differentiates between the two; the only way to distinguish them is with a unique measuring tool. Read more about diamonds and their origins here
All round diamonds of a minimum of 0.3 carat and fancy cuts (diamonds that are not round) of a minimum of 0.5 carat come with accompanying certificates. Certificates created from January 2023 are digital. Read more about our different diamond certificates here.
We offer all diamond shapes. Need help finding the diamond shape you are looking for? Contact us for assistance from an expert.
We recommend choosing a diamond with a combination of color and clarity that suits the piece of jewelry it will be set in. For example, engagement rings should have an elegant diamond that catches the eye, while earrings can have a slightly lower color and clarity grade. The most important thing is to choose what you like, there is no right or wrong, but we always recommend our customers not to compromise on the cut as it has the most significant impact on the diamond’s appearance.
We only work with conflict-free diamonds that undergo a security process called the Kimberly process. You can read more about the origin of our diamonds here. We then purchase diamonds from all over the world, mainly from Belgium, India, and the USA.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve a diamond. Our vision is not to work with a large stock but to purchase and manufacture products upon order. Therefore, the database you see is what our various suppliers present to you with the available options and prices. This means the diamonds can be sold to another supplier anytime, which is beyond our control. If the diamond you were planning to purchase is no longer available, one of our experts will contact you and present a new diamond proposal.
Like diamonds, we do not keep a stock of gemstones but pick each stone individually and uniquely for each order. Therefore, we adapt to the requirements and preferences that each customer has. Many of our gemstones come from Sri Lanka, India, and Madagascar, but they can also come from other countries. Regardless of the stone's origin, our sustainability mindset is always with us, resulting in the fact that no stone sold by us from bad or non-humanitarian conditions.
Fluorescence measures how much colored light a diamond emits under strong UV light. The most common color of fluorescence is blue, but in rare cases, green, red, orange, purple, and yellow can also occur. Please read more in our buying guide here
When referring to “eye clean,” we are talking about the diamond’s inclusions. When a diamond is eye clean, the inclusions, if any, cannot be seen with the naked eye. Therefore, they do not affect the diamond visually and can only be seen under magnification.
Cut describes how well the different parts of the diamond are polished in relation to each other and how it affects the diamond’s brilliance. A diamond with an excellent cut reflects light to the maximum.
When we talk about colorless diamonds, we are not referring to colors such as blue, green, or red but to the absence of color. These colorless diamonds are graded on a scale from D to Z. D represents completely colorless diamonds, and Z represents yellow diamonds. Other colors, such as red, green, or pink, are called fancy colors and constitute a separate part of the diamond market as they are rare.
Carat is a unit of weight used for diamonds. One carat equals 0.2 grams. Carat, therefore, does not refer to a diamond's size but rather its weight. A diamond with a higher carat weight may appear smaller than a diamond with a lower carat weight; this phenomenon depends on how the weight is distributed within the diamond.
Diamonds are graded based on a clarity scale ranging from FL (Flawless) to I3 (Including 3). Flawless means there are no inclusions visible under 10x magnification, either inside or on the surface of the diamond. Clarity I3 means several defects on the diamond are visible to the naked eye. Currently, we offer diamonds with a clarity grade ranging from FL to SI2.
The diamonds on our website come from a database where the world's largest suppliers offer their diamonds, so they are not in our inventory. This means that sometimes certain diamonds may be purchased simultaneously by another company or another customer, making that specific diamond unavailable. We always try to offer a diamond of at least the same quality for the original purchase amount. In cases where there is no comparable diamond in the same price range, we help you find one at a higher price or a diamond with different criteria.
If you set the search filter to H/SI1, Excellent cut, you will notice that diamonds are available at a lower price than our preset diamonds, even though they are graded the same. This is because the diamond market is very good at pricing based on how the diamond appears to the naked eye. In most cases, the cheapest diamonds will have visible inclusions, so they are priced lower. Our selected SI1 diamonds you get by choosing the carat weight are always 100% clean to the naked eye as we handpick them. Therefore, the price of a diamond always reveals its quality, and many parameters are not visible on the certificate.
We do not sell treated diamonds. However, we can offer treated diamonds upon request. Please contact us to purchase a treated diamond.
Our diamond inventory is updated every night.
White gold is a precious metal that is plated with rhodium. Rhodium makes white gold whiter in tone and more durable. The rhodium plating will wear off over time, resulting in a gray, not yellow, tone. We recommend our customers with white gold rings to re-plate when needed. If you want a consistently white ring, we recommend platinum.
When combining rings, it is essential that the combination feels comfortable and, for some, that the rings fit closely together. This means that the rings have the same depth. Having a variety where the rings fit closely together is, of course, a matter of taste. Contact our experts for suitable recommendations.
All of our rings are made of precious metals. They will scratch with use, regardless of the metal. Platinum gets more but minor scratches, while white gold gets larger and coarser scratches. At first, many people notice every scratch. However, with time complete ring will be scratched, making the scratches less visible. You can polish the ring to make it "like new" again.
We have chosen to only work with precious metals because they maintain a high standard that results in jewelry and rings that can be worn and appreciated for generations. Silver is a soft metal that is not suitable for setting diamonds. We recommend 950 platinum or 18K white gold if you want a white metal.

Our policies do not apply when purchasing a custom-designed ring.
CAD (Computer Aided Design) is a sketch created by a unique computer program. We use CAD to produce drawings of custom-designed jewelry and rings. Thanks to the program, we can have 3D- images that make it possible to get an idea of the design and final result.
Yes, we can make jewelry in 14K gold, but we strongly recommend 18K as it is more durable and a common alloy with a richer color. If you prefer a piece in 14K instead of 18K, the production price (excluding diamonds) will be reduced by approximately 10%. Please note that our terms and conditions do not apply when buying 14K since it is not part of our standard assortment.
A special order is a piece of jewelry or ring from our standard assortment with minor modifications, such as a change of metal or adjustment of claws. A custom-designed piece is uniquely designed from scratch using CAD. None of these are included in our return and exchange policy.
The most common nowadays is that the man only has a ring for both engagement and marriage. Instead of then adding a ring, one blesses the man's engagement ring during the wedding ceremony and then one often engraves the marriage date in the ring. Some men also choose to have two rings, a wedding ring and an engagement ring.
We offer free engraving on all our rings at the time of purchase. However, a charge will be made if you want to engrave your ring afterward or perhaps engrave a ring that is not from VANBRUUN when engraving a VANBRUUN ring. Engrave and read more here.
We always recommend that our customers bring their rings in for maintenance about once a year, sometimes more frequently due to the ring's design. VANBRUUN provides free claw inspections and maintenance for life; you only need to cover shipping. You can learn more about VANBRUUN SPA and our service offerings here.
If you want to upgrade your diamond, the easiest way is to contact our sales department, which will assist you further.
We place great significance on quality and therefore offer a lifetime warranty on all our jewelry for events resulting from manufacturing defects. You can learn more about our guarantee and terms here
We offer complimentary resizing according to the policy on our standard assortment. This means that within 90 days of receiving your order, you are entitled to one free resizing per ring. Therefore, you do not have to worry about ordering the wrong size. If unsure, we recommend ordering a sizing band or size rings.
In addition to an annual inspection and maintenance at VANBRUUN SPA, we recommend all our customers to take care of their pieces between service appointments.
When we receive a ring sent in for resizing, we confirm the delivery via email.
Resizing takes about 4-5 weeks. Note that platinum may take up to 6 weeks.

Therefore, we produce most of our jewelry in the historical jewelry quarter of Birmingham, where there is knowledge that contributes to a unique and sustainable product. Read more about the manufacturing process here.
We strive to work with suppliers who work under sustainable conditions. Therefore, our leading supplier and partner carefully take advantage of the gold our earth has created. For example, gold is removed when making jewelry and rings, resulting in dust. To take advantage of this so-called “gold dust,” our supplier uses a highly sophisticated system that, thanks to technology, reduces possible waste of gold and recycles the gold that has been removed.
Although all gold in our production meets a high standard, we offer and encourage customers to choose Fairtrade gold. Fairtrade gold means that human conditions are more extensively controlled for better living conditions. Read more about Fairtrade gold.
